Eighty-plus voices captured on September 11, 2001. Help us identify the people whose stories became part of this remarkable record.

How did your life change since 9/11?

On September 11, 2001, filmmaker Patrick Heaphy walked through Manhattan with a video camera as New Yorkers, workers, visitors and commuters tried to understand what was happening around them. Rather than focusing only on the skyline, he turned his camera toward the people on the streets and began asking questions: What happened? What have you heard? How are you feeling?

More than 80 spontaneous interviews were captured that day. Their voices preserve the shock, uncertainty, fear, compassion and confusion of a city experiencing history in real time, before smartphones and social media changed the way moments like this are documented.

9/11+25: Return to Ground Zero brings those encounters together, along with some previously unseen footage and present-day reflections that place the images in context 25 years later.

Our photo gallery includes screenshots of the people Patrick met and interviewed on September 11. In many cases, we never learned their names.

If you recognize yourself, a family member, friend, colleague or anyone pictured in the gallery, we would be grateful to hear from you. Please contact us. We hope to identify these voices, reconnect with those who shared their stories, and preserve their place in this collective record of September 11.
